Sessions was a compilation album by the Beatles planned for release by EMI in 1984 but never issued due to objections by the surviving Beatles. The album consisted of thirteen finished but unreleased Beatles songs. A planned single containing two of the tracks from Sessions – "Leave My Kitten Alone", backed with an alternative version of "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" – was also left unissued. The idea was resurrected in 1995 as The Beatles Anthology.
Toad, of Toad Hall, is one of the main characters in the novel The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame and also the title character of the A. A. Milne play Toad of Toad Hall based on the book. We called the album The Coldroom Sessions, and we were thrilled when a label (Hungry Audio) said they would like to release it. Recording it had been something of a rollercoaster ride. When we started, we were hardly functioning as a band, we hadn't recorded any new material for four years, we were beleaguered by various problems and we had basic equipment and even more basic skills. Despite this, we produced an album that was certainly not perfect, but which had perfectly captured the songs we had written and the way we were feeling. To me, that is what recording is all about.
