Replica Sun Machine is the second album by The Shortwave Set. Work began on the album shortly after the release of The Debt Collection. In an interview for Swedish television, singer and songwriter Andrew Pettitt said that by February 2007 the album was completed as far as they were concerned. However, around this time, Danger Mouse heard they were working on a new album, and offered to produce it for them.

Why would someone want a replica sun machine, when we have a real sun, which is completely free to use? The Shortwave Set don't care about practical questions such as this, of course- they're fine with their LP title being a fancy, six-syllable way to say "lamp. A second question arises, then: Why make things so unnecessarily complicated, and then be coy about it? It's semantics, sure, but also a useful way to think about the group and their latest album. Replica Sun Machine is an exceedingly simple thing- with tunes so familiar-feeling to be easily ignorable- but.

The Shortwave Set's first album went largely unnoticed, except by an impressive group of musical luminaries who began queuing up to work on their second album. It's an impressive cast list for such a previously little known band, and the results are never less than alluring. The Shortwave Set manage to blend an artful, softly psychedelic folkiness with a glitchy backdrop of electronica, producing a unique end result

The Shortwave Set were a British alternative pop band whose debut album, The Debt Collection, was released in 2005 on Independiente Records. The band's music combines sample-based music with more traditional songwriting and instrumentation to create a sound the group have described as "Victorian Funk". The band's second album, Replica Sun Machine, was released on 12 May 2008 by Wall of Sound.

LP (12" album, 33 rpm), Import. Shortwave Set Format: Vinyl. It's too bad the band is probably done for good because I've enjoyed all of their work. Good luck reaching any of the members too but if you do let me know. The Shortwave Set excels at psychedelic pop gems, and REPLICA SUN MACHINES shows off their bright, sparkling side. Glitches 'n' Bugs" is handclap-ready, while "Replica" dips a toe into controlled chaos. Now Til '69" has a buzzing bass that keeps things moving tight, and "Yesterdays To Come" has some classical flourishes in the form of background strings. A nice spin through 60s nostalgia.

Building on a foundation of boutique festival-friendly psychedelia, Stereolab-like grooves, Free Design harmonies and an occasional faux glam strut, the band veers from the sublime to the ridiculous and back again. The best aspect is the Swedish singer Ulrika Bjorsne’s prim enunciation, adding deadpan oddness to the cries on Now Till ‘69 and to Sun Machine’s eerie acid jangle
