Album · 2008 · 10 Songs. It was with Annihilation Time’s third and final album that the Ventura, Calif. born band began to lean a little less on its hardcore punk influences and teeter toward the tougher classic rock side of its sound. Splashback still opens with the hard attack of an old Black Flag record-especially with frontman Jimmy Rose channeling equal parts Keith Morris and Henry Rollins

The new album is called Tales of the Ancient Age. What "age” are you referring to? Ancient Age is a really cheap whisky that makes you do stupid things. I thought it was funny because it sounds deep to people who don’t know and the cover art is supposed to be depicting the future fucked-up world; it all fit so well. Is there any one band you’re tired of being compared to? Black Sabbath and Thin Lizzy. Both of those bands kick tons of ass but I don’t think we sound anything like them. It’s an uncomfortable comparison.

Southern California's Annihilation Time was formed in 2001, and spent much of the following year honing their hybrid hard rock/hardcore style by playing parties and switching instruments. Finally, after settling on a lineup featuring vocalist Fred Hammer, lead guitarist Graham Clise, rhythm guitarist Jamie Sanitate, bassist Chris Grande, and drummer Tony Melino, they recorded an eponymous debut later that year

I don't know how many of you have been really pining for some & rock 'n' roll flair to be added to the guitar lines of mid-& hardcore, but if you are, then you'll probably appreciate Annihilation Time. The opener, "Splash Back" rings of Iron Maiden at times while "About to Snap" has some Thin Lizzy-esque dual guitar attacks
